What is the difference between direct and indirect methods of producing zinc oxide?

At present, there are two processes used in the production of zinc oxide in China, the direct method and the indirect method. So is there any difference between the two methods and do they produce the same product quality.?

1. Indirect method and direct method production process is different

Wet zinc oxide is produced by using low-grade zinc oxide or zinc ore sand or flue ash as raw material, leaching and removing impurities with sulfuric or hydrochloric acid at a pH of 5.4. The resulting refined acid solution is deep-settled to obtain zinc carbonate, which is washed and dried at 120-140 degrees Celsius, then calcined at 400 degrees Celsius to obtain active zinc oxide.

Indirect zinc oxide is obtained by smelting zinc metal ingots or zinc slag. The zinc is then converted to zinc vapor in a graphite crucible at a temperature of 1000 degrees Celsius and then oxidized by the incoming air to produce zinc oxide.

Direct method roasted zinc ore powder with anthracite, lime in accordance with the preparation of the ball, the reduction of smelting, ore powder in the year zinc oxide is reduced to zinc vapor, and then pass into the air for oxidation, the production of zinc oxide by trapping, to produce finished zinc oxide.

2. The quality of finished zinc oxide produced by indirect and direct methods is different

The indirect method produces zinc oxide particles with a diameter sub ah 0.1-10 microns and a high purity between 99.5 and 99.7%. Rubber tires are generally produced using zinc oxide by this method.

The direct method of zinc oxide is mostly produced from zinc ash, which is less effective in promoting rubber vulcanization than the indirect method, and its products are mostly used in ceramics and other fields.

3. Two kinds of zinc oxide production process products price

From the second point, we can see that the indirect method of zinc oxide has higher product quality requirements in the industry, so its product price and quality are higher than the direct method of zinc oxide. We have compared the differences between the indirect and direct zinc oxide processes through the above three points: production process, application and price. We believe that you can choose the corresponding production process according to your local market situation when choosing zinc oxide, so as to achieve greater production benefits.
